The Library > Profile

1. Structure

The Library is a modern, one-track information and media centre whose holdings, which are housed on the two campuses in Sankt Augustin and Rheinbach, are freely accessible and structured by topics. It is subsidised by the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and by the Rhein-Sieg District. The Library Administration is situated on the Sankt Augustin campus.

2. Range

The Library provides a versatile and attractive collection to all its groups of customers: current scientific reference books and textbooks, non-fiction books, materials for education and further education, language learning materials, professional journals and daily newspapers, DVDs, videos, cassettes, CD-ROMs. Furthermore, the Library is stocked with an extensive collection of data bases, which can in part also be accessed and used from home.

As a place of training and tuition the Library has modern, well-equipped rooms with a pleasant reading and working atmosphere. Quiet individual workstations, group workstations, rooms for meetings and training courses, multimedia and Internet workstations, the comfortable sofa, on which you can read the newspaper - there is something for everybody. Training courses and seminars on various topics are offered to teach Library users how to deal competently with information. Regular art exhibitions and book readings make the Library a cultural place, too.

3. Cooperation projects

The Library closely cooperates with the departments of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences as well as other library institutions. It is part of the Union Catalogue of North Rhine-Westphalia, established in collaboration with other libraries, which enables the online research of all academic libraries in the Land. In its capacity as District Library it is the contact point of all public community libraries within the region, which it supports with manifold services.

4. Collections

The majority of the Library collections can be borrowed. 140,000 media units, 10,000 ebooks and 400 print journals as well as more than 2,000 electronic journals are currently available. At the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences the thematic focus is on the subjects Business Administration, Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Biology and Chemistry as well as Journalism.  However, the entire range is versatile and also comprises areas such as travelling, films and foreign language literature. The Library collections can be researched worldwide using the Online Catalogue. Books or periodicals that are not available can be ordered online from other libraries via Inter-Library Loans.
